Who Does She Think She Is?

If you haven’t seen it yet, make plans to. “Who Does She Think She Is?” is a documentary about women in the arts, currently airing on PBS around the nation, and it’s stirring up strong feelings from artists and art critics alike.  Filmmaker Pamela Tanner Boll’s primary goal appears to be a discourse on the sacrifice made by women artists who choose to have a family, however the film also highlights the continuing political tension between femalehood and the Academy, butting current statistics such as the enrollment numbers of women who fill the world’s art schools against the paltry representation of female artists in its museums. We think this film should be required viewing for women AND men in the arts.
